Upgrading Platinum firmware without an Internet connection

September 2009

Platinum firmware for CMG-EAMs and CMG-DCMs has a built-in upgrade facility which uses the rsync protocol to update the firmware to the latest revision. By default, this facility connects to the Güralp Systems' rsync server via the internet.

Where internet access is not available, there are two options available for updating Platinum units:

  • Upgrade from a local mirror. This option involves setting up an internet-connected computer or laptop as a portable rsync server which can then be carried to the desired location and connected via Ethernet to the CMG-EAM or CMG-DCM while the upgrade is being performed.
  • Upgrade from a USB memory stick. This option, available from October 2009, involves preparing a USB memory stick or similar device which can then be carried to the CMG-EAM and CMG-DCM and connected via a suitable adaptor while the upgrade is being performed.

Instructions for setting up and using a local rsync mirror are here.

Instructions for setting up and using a USB memory device will be issued when available.
